Lady Pirates fall to Howard in five game showdown

Three Lady Pirates have record breaking performances
Washington, D.C.-Senior Chavanca Hoskins (Dallas, Texas/ Lincoln HS) and sophomores Alyssa Jackson (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Snider HS) and Jasmin Elder (Upper Marlboro, Md. / Gwynn HS) recorded record breaking performances on Thursday night versus conference rival Howard. Nevertheless it wasn’t enough as the Lady Pirates subsequently fell in a five game thriller (30-27, 21-30, 32-30, 25-30, 9-15) to the Bison at the Trinity Center on the campus of Trinity College.
The Lady Pirates were led in kills by sophomore Morgan Williams (Duncanville, Texas/ Duncanville HS) who recorded her second consecutive double-double with 24 kills and 13 digs. Hoskins chipped in with 19 kills on a record breaking 76 total attacks, thus breaking her own five game record of 63 set on Oct. 14, 2005. Hoskins also tallied her fourth consecutive double-double. Jackson tallied a record breaking feat of her own by shattering the four year record of 24 held by former Lady Pirate Kanasha Trent set on Oct. 27, 2001 by registering 30 digs in the five game bout. Elder distributed 56 assists, cracking the five-game entry of 55 assists once owned by Brenda Gonzalez. Elder also tallied a career-high 11 digs and three service aces.
Sophomore middle hitter Ese Ighedosa (Kansas City, Mo./ Center Senior HS) was active offensively and defensively with 10 kills and a match-high five total blocks.
The Lady Bison were led by Janel James with 19 kills, three service aces and 17 digs.
With the loss the Lady Pirates snap their three-game winning streak and drop to 4-7 (0-0 MEAC) on the season while Howard improved to 3-7 (0-0 MEAC).
The Lady Pirates will head home to host Morgan State on Sept. 26 inside Holland Hall at 6.p.m. for their home opener.
